Many Motorists Get Stressed Having Car MOT’d

March 28, 2019 by Logan Biggs

Some interesting research has been carried out on behalf of Co-op Insurance relating to the number of motorists who get stressed due to having their vehicle put through its MOT. The number of owners of cars taking part in the survey here in the UK amounted to 2,001.

Apparently, 59% of people taking part in the survey felt that the experience of having to get their car MOT’d was a stressful one. We are sure that you will agree this is a high figure.

The main reason why car owners get stressed is because of the time that an MOT takes to complete with 36% of motorists feeling this way. 28% of drivers got stressed due to having to arrange to actually take their car to have its MOT. 27% of motorists did not know about technical phrases and were not happy about asking for such terms to be explained to them. It was interesting that 26% of drivers found the garage to be daunting. Another worrying statistic was that 17% of motorists found it difficult to feel confident about the garage as they had had a previous poor experience. Having to take time of work or have an MOT done on a weekend concerned 18% of drivers.

Rather concerning, a lot of motorists are unaware of what sort of things are checked when putting a car through an MOT. Did you know that you need to make sure that the inside of the car is kept tidy? Well, 83% of those people taking part in the survey did not.

If you are in the motor trade industry and specifically carry out MOTs then you may wish to consider ways of trying to reduce the stress levels of motorists bringing their car in for an MOT. For instance, is the waiting room pleasant and perhaps offer free tea and coffee. Make sure that your customers are aware of how long the MOT will take and what sorts of things are checked when arranging the appointment. After all, if you provide your customers with a pleasant experience then they are more likely to return to you in the future and recommend friends and family.
