MOT Backlog

September 23, 2021 by mti

If you are involved in carrying out MOTs on vehicles you will probably be aware that there is a backlog of MOTs that need to be carried out due in part to the pandemic. It is quite possible that you have a full diary of MOTs booked over the next few weeks.

You may remember that last year the Government agreed that, depending upon when last year’s MOT was due, drivers could delay having their MOT carried out on their cars. As a result, this has meant that there are currently more vehicles that need to be MOTd than normal at this time of year due to what happened in 2020.

Obviously, this presents a tremendous opportunity to garages that carry out MOTs to take on much needed work as those cars that fail the MOT will need the repair work carrying out and new parts and tyes fitted where appropriate. There will no doubt be some garages that would normally only open Monday to Friday that may consider opening 6 or even 7 days a week to deal with the MOT backlog and carry out any repair work needed to get the vehicles through the MOT or retest.

Hopefully, this additional work may help make up for all or some of the potential shortfall in turnover that some garages may have suffered due to the pandemic last year. It may also mean that some garages need to take on more staff to deal with the increased workload thus creating much needed jobs for people currently out of work.

Whilst writing, if your existing motor trade insurance is shortly due for renewal or you are setting up in the motor trade business for the first time, why not get in touch with us with a view to obtaining a competitive, no-obligation quotation for motor trade insurance. We very much look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
