New Van Sales Increase In May

There has been so much bad news in recent weeks and months surrounding the motor trade industry that it is great to be able to report about something positive. This involves the number of new vans that were sold in May 2019.

According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), there was a reasonable rise in the number of new vans sold here in the UK in May 2019 when compared with the same month last year. This news will particularly please motor traders who are involved in the buying and selling not only of new vans but also used ones as well.

In May 2019, the number of new vans sold here in the UK up to 3.5 tonnes amounted to 29,142 whereas in May 2018 the figure was 27,639. That is a difference of 1,503 with this equating to an increase of 5.4%.

New pickup sales in May 2019 were 3,759 but in May 2018 were 3,826 – a fall of 1.8%.

New 4 x 4’s sales in May 2019 were 160 but in May 2018 were 217 – a fall of 26.3%.

New van sales below 2 tonnes in May 2019 amounted to 2,254 whereas in May 2018 the figure was 1,978 – a rise of 14%.

New van sales between 2 tonnes to 2.5 tonnes in May 2019 totalled 4,706 but in May 2018 amounted to 4,269 – a rise of 10.2%.

New van sales between 2.5 tonnes to 3.5 tonnes in May 2019 came to 18,263 whereas in May 2018 came to 17,349 – a rise of 5.3%.

On a year to date basis to May 2019, the number of all new vans sold in the UK up to 3.5 tonnes amounted to 156,489 with this being a significant increase when compared with the same period to May 2018 when the figure was 145,514 – a nice rise of 7.5%.
