There is more disappointing news for the motor trade industry with the recent announcement that the number of new vans sold here in the UK for the month of October 2019 has fallen. Obviously, this will give cause for concern in particular to those motor traders involved in the sale of such vehicles.

According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the number of new vans sold in October 2019 totalled 25,373. For the same month last year the figure was 28,494 so there was a drop of 11.0% – a sizeable figure. The number of new pickups sold last month amounted to 3,241 – a drop of 12% from 3.681 in October 2018. The number of new 4x4s last month was 226 with this being a rise of 65% when compared with the 137 sold in the same month last year. The number of new vans up to 2.0 tonnes sold in October 2019 was 1,396 – an increase of 2.0% from 1,368 in October 2018. The number of new vans sold in the 2.5 to 3.5 tonnes category in October 2019 was 16,155 whereas in the same month last year the figure was 19,983 – a fall of 19.2%.

On a year to date basis to October 2019, the total number of vans sold here in the UK amounted to 311,989 whereas in October 2018 the figure was 302,741 – an increase of 3.1%. Obviously, this is positive news.
