  1. Drop In Sale Of New Buses And Coaches

    There are obviously fewer motor traders selling new buses and coaches than there are selling new cars but those of you involved in this specialist sector of the motor trade industry will be disappointed to read that there was a drop in the sale of such vehicles in 2018 when compared with 2017.

    In 2018, there were 7,236 new buses and coaches sold here in the UK. This was a fall of 5.6% when compared with the figures for 2017 according to data published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). .........read more »


  2. New Van Registrations Increase In February

    Motor traders focusing on the sale of new vans here in the UK will be pleased to read that, according to data produced by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), there was a rise in the number of new vans being registered in February 2019.

    In February 2019, there was an increase of 1.8% in the number of new vans sold here in the UK when compared with the same month last year. In February 2018 there were 14,135 new vans sold whereas in February 2019 this had risen by 249 to 14,384. .........read more »

    Motor traders will be pleased to hear some good news for once following the announcement that there has been a small rise in the number of new cars sold here in the UK in February 2019.   4. Honda To Close Car Manufacturing Plant In Swindon

    Honda started building cars in Swindon in the late 1980s so those of you operating within the motor trade industry will be disappointed to have heard recently that the Japanese car manufacturing company is going to stop building cars in 2021 at the above location.

    The company builds in the region of 160,000 Honda Civics at the above plant in the UK every year so it is a substantial operation. In fact, regrettably, it is being forecast that in the region of 3,500 people will loose their jobs. That is going to have a huge impact on Swindon and let us hope that all those people who end up being made unemployed and who want to are able to obtain alternative employment as quickly as possible. .........read more »


  5. Used Car Sales Drop In 2018

    If you are a motor trader dealing in the buying and selling of second hand cars, what sort of a year did you have in 2018? According to figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), used car sales here in the UK fell in 2018 in comparison to the previous year.

    Unfortunately, the number of used cars sold fell by 2.1% when comparing 2018 with 2017. In 2018, there were 7,945,040 used cars sold whereas in 2017 the number of second hand cars sold amounted to 8,113,020. That is a drop of 167,980 – a significant number and one that the motor trade industry could have done without as there has not been all that much to be positive about last year. .........read more »


  6. Good News For New Van Sales

    It is some weeks since we have had anything really positive to say about the motor trade industry. Well, figures have been published in the last few days by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) relating to the sale of new vans that make for positive reading.

    It is pleasing to read that in the new van category to 3.5 tonnes there were 22,236 registered in January 2019 up from 20,475 when compared with January 2018. That is an increase of 1,761 with this equating to a rise of 8.6%. .........read more »

  9. Cost Of Car Insurance Increases
