  2. Trade Values For Used Cars Falls In July 2019

    Motor traders will be aware that business is tough at the moment and has been for some time. It can prove difficult to move cars off the forecourt within a reasonable timescale and this could impact on the bottom line.

    According to cap hpi, the trade value on used cars has fallen by an average of 2.2% in July 2019 for a 3 year 60,000 mile vehicle. In the last 5 years the average fall in such values in July has been 1% so the latest figure is somewhat concerning. .........read more »


  3. Another Bad Month For The Number Of New Cars Sold

    Here in the UK, the new car market is having a poor time of things. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has announced that the number of new cars sold here in the UK in July 2019 fell by 4.1% when compared with the same month last year.

  4. Reduction In UK Car Manufacturing

    Those of you operating within the motor trade industry will be disappointed to read that car manufacturing here in the UK suffered a large drop in production on a year to date basis to June 2019. This is not good news for this important sector of the UK economy.

    According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), in the 6 months to June 2019 there was a fall of 20.1% in the building of cars here in the UK when compared with the same period to June 2018. In the later period there were 834,573 new cars built whereas in the former period there were only 666,521 new cars constructed. .........read more »


  5. Sales Of New Cars Fall In June

    It has probably been a disappointing June for many motor traders here in the UK involved in the sale of new cars as, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), there has been s drop in the number of new cars registered last month.

    There has been so much bad news in recent weeks and months surrounding the motor trade industry that it is great to be able to report about something positive. This involves the number of new vans that were sold in May 2019.

    According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), there was a reasonable rise in the number of new vans sold here in the UK in May 2019 when compared with the same month last year.   7. Number Of New Cars Sold In UK In May Drops

    If you are a motor trader, unfortunately, yet again we have some bad news to inform you of. The number of new cars registered here in the UK fell in May 2019 when compared with the same month last year.

    In May 2019, 183,724 new cars were sold in the UK yet in May 2018 192,649 new cars were sold. That is a drop of 8,925 and equates to a reduction of 4.6%. .........read more »


  8. Ford To Close Bridgend Plant

    Those of you operating within the motor trade industry will be disappointed to have heard that Ford is to close its Bridgend engine plant on 25th September 2020. This is just over a year away and, apparently, there are 1,700 people who will be loosing their jobs. That would be bad news for many people living in and around the Bridgend area as well as some businesses in the locality that are frequented by people working at the Ford plant. .........read more »

  10. Used Car Sales Drop Slightly In Q1 2019

    Those of you running a business in the motor trade industry, in particular motor traders, will find it interesting to read that there was a small reduction in the number of used cars sold in Q1 2019 when compared with Q1 2018.

    Data published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reveals that the number of used cars sold in Q1 2019 was 2,020, 144 whereas in Q1 2018 the figure was 2,031,661. That is a drop of 11,517 that equates to a fall of 0.6% – only a small drop but nevertheless it is still a fall in numbers. .........read more »
