  3. Drop In New Van Registrations In First Two Months Of This Year

    If you are a motor trader involved in the sale of new vans here in the UK then you may find it of interest to read that the number of new vans sold in the first 2 months of 2022 have fallen quite considerably when compared with the same period in 2021.

    For instance, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the number of new vans registered in January and February of this year in the up to 3.5 tonnes category amounted to 33,731 whereas in the same period last year the figure was 41,234. That equates to a fall of 18.2%. However, it is worth noting that the number of new vans sold in the first 2 months of 2022 is in excess of the numbers sold before the pandemic. .........read more »


  4. New Van Sales Increase In 2021

    Motor traders involved in the sale of new vans in the UK will be interested to read that the number of new vans registered in 2021 increased by 21.4% when compared with 2020.

    According to figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), in the twelve month period last year there were 355,380 new vans sold whereas for the same period in 2020 there were 292,657 new vans registered. It is also interesting that the number of new vans sold in 2021 in the UK was 2.8% lower than in 2019.  There will be some people who will feel that these figures are reasonable considering the length of time the pandemic has been running for.   5. New Car Registrations Increase In 6 Months To June 2021

    Those of you running a motor trade business will hopefully have seen an increase in the number of new cars being sold in the last few weeks in the UK. Hopefully, there will also have been a rise in the number of used cars sold.

    It will probably not come as a surprise for those of you involved in the motor trade industry to read that engine manufacturing in the UK in April 2021 increased in comparison to the same month last year and new van sales increased in May 2021 when compared with May 2020.   7. New Van Registrations Increase In 2019

    We are pleased to inform motor traders that there was an increase in the number of new vans registered in 2019 in the UK in comparison to 2018. That will also come as good news to others in the motor trade industry.

    According to data published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), there was a rise of 2.4% in the number of new vans sold in the UK in 2019 with some 365,778 being sold whereas in 2018 the figure was 357,325. That is different to the situation for new car sales as mentioned in the last post when the number of such vehicles sold last year fell when compared to the previous year. .........read more »


  8. October Sees Fall In UK Van Sales

    There is more disappointing news for the motor trade industry with the recent announcement that the number of new vans sold here in the UK for the month of October 2019 has fallen. Obviously, this will give cause for concern in particular to those motor traders involved in the sale of such vehicles.

    According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the number of new vans sold in October 2019 totalled 25,373. For the same month last year the figure was 28,494 so there was a drop of 11.0% – a sizeable figure. The number of new pickups sold last month amounted to 3,241 – a drop of 12% from 3.681 in October 2018. The number of new 4x4s last month was 226 with this being a rise of 65% when compared with the 137 sold in the same month last year. The number of new vans up to 2.0 tonnes sold in October 2019 was 1,396 – an increase of 2.0% from 1,368 in October 2018. The number of new vans sold between 2.0 to 2,5 tonnes last month was 4,355 with this being a big increase of 31% from 3,325 in October 2018. The number of new vans sold in the 2.5 to 3.5 tonnes category in October 2019 was 16,155 whereas in the same month last year the figure was 19,983 – a fall of 19.2%. .........read more »

    There is more disappointing news for the motor trade industry, in particular for motor traders who sell new vans. According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), there has been a big drop in the number of new vans sold here in the UK for the month of September 2019.

    Last month there were 41,216 new vans sold in the UK compared to 53,848 in September 2018. That is a very big reduction of 23.5% and must be concerning for those motor traders who make a living from selling such vehicles. .........read more »

    There has been so much bad news in recent weeks and months surrounding the motor trade industry that it is great to be able to report about something positive. This involves the number of new vans that were sold in May 2019.

    According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), there was a reasonable rise in the number of new vans sold here in the UK in May 2019 when compared with the same month last year.
