  1. New Van Registrations Increase In 2019

    We are pleased to inform motor traders that there was an increase in the number of new vans registered in 2019 in the UK in comparison to 2018. That will also come as good news to others in the motor trade industry.

    According to data published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), there was a rise of 2.4% in the number of new vans sold in the UK in 2019 with some 365,778 being sold whereas in 2018 the figure was 357,325.   2. October Sees Fall In UK Van Sales

    There is more disappointing news for the motor trade industry with the recent announcement that the number of new vans sold here in the UK for the month of October 2019 has fallen. Obviously, this will give cause for concern in particular to those motor traders involved in the sale of such vehicles.

    According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the number of new vans sold in October 2019 totalled 25,373. For the same month last year the figure was 28,494 so there was a drop of 11.0% – a sizeable figure. The number of new pickups sold last month amounted to 3,241 – a drop of 12% from 3.681 in October 2018. The number of new 4x4s last month was 226 with this being a rise of 65% when compared with the 137 sold in the same month last year. The number of new vans up to 2.0 tonnes sold in October 2019 was 1,396 – an increase of 2.0% from 1,368 in October 2018. The number of new vans sold between 2.0 to 2,5 tonnes last month was 4,355 with this being a big increase of 31% from 3,325 in October 2018. The number of new vans sold in the 2.5 to 3.5 tonnes category in October 2019 was 16,155 whereas in the same month last year the figure was 19,983 – a fall of 19.2%. .........read more »


  3. Sale Of New Vans Drop In September

    There is more disappointing news for the motor trade industry, in particular for motor traders who sell new vans. According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), there has been a big drop in the number of new vans sold here in the UK for the month of September 2019.

    Last month there were 41,216 new vans sold in the UK compared to 53,848 in September 2018. That is a very big reduction of 23.5% and must be concerning for those motor traders who make a living from selling such vehicles. .........read more »

    There has been so much bad news in recent weeks and months surrounding the motor trade industry that it is great to be able to report about something positive. This involves the number of new vans that were sold in May 2019.

    According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), there was a reasonable rise in the number of new vans sold here in the UK in May 2019 when compared with the same month last year.   5. New Van Registrations Increase In February

    Motor traders focusing on the sale of new vans here in the UK will be pleased to read that, according to data produced by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), there was a rise in the number of new vans being registered in February 2019.

    In February 2019, there was an increase of 1.8% in the number of new vans sold here in the UK when compared with the same month last year. In February 2018 there were 14,135 new vans sold whereas in February 2019 this had risen by 249 to 14,384. .........read more »


  6. New Van Sales Fall In September

    Motor traders involved in the sale of new vans will be disappointed to read that the number of new vans sold last month here in the UK dropped by 4.2% when compared with September 2016. This is obviously not good news for the motor trade industry.

    Back in September last year there were 59,857 new vans registered in the UK yet in September of 2017 the number of such vehicles registered dropped to 57,368.

    On a year to date basis to September 2016 291,714 new vans were registered but on a year to date basis to September 2017 the figure had fallen to 282,679. This is a fall of 3.1% that we are sure you will agree is a significant drop.

    The above data is published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) on a regular basis along with other interesting statistics affecting the motor trade industry. You can read numerous reports on their website.

    The percentage of 4 x 4s sold in September 2017 fell by a large figure when compared with the same month last year. There were 53 sales of such vehicles last month compared to 99 sales in the same month last year. That is a very big drop of 46.5%. However, when looking at the year to date figures to September 2017 there was a fall of 91.4% when compared to September 2016 with 4,212 4 x 4s being sold in the 12 months to September 2016 but only 364 sold in the same period to September 2017.

    The top selling LCVs in September 2017 were: –

    1. Ford Transit Custom 8,892
    2. Ford Transit 4,436
    3. Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4,293
    4. Volkswagen Transporter 3,499
    5. Ford Transit Connect 3,172

    The top selling LCVs on a year to date basis to September 2017 were: –

    1. Ford Transit Custom 40,760
    2. Ford Transit 21,172
    3. Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 17,338
    4. Volkswagen Transporter 16,540
    5. Ford Transit Connect 15,156

    Let us hope that the situation improves and that the number of new vans sold here in the UK increases throughout the remainder of 2017 and beyond as it impacts on many businesses involved in the motor trade.
