  2. Drop In New Car Sales In October

    Motor traders will be disappointed to read that, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), there has been a drop in the sale of new cars for the month of October 2020 when compared with the same month last year.

    In October 2020 there were 140,945 new cars sold whereas in October 2019 the figure was 143,251. That is a fall of 2,306 that equates to a drop of 1.6%. .........read more »

  4. July Sees Drop In UK Car Manufacturing

    It will probably not come as a surprise to those of you involved in the motor trade industry to read that the number of new cars built here in the UK dropped in July 2020 when compared to July 2019. The pandemic no doubt had a significant impact on performance.

    In July 2020, the number of new cars manufactured in the UK amounted to 85,696 whereas in July last year the figure was 108,239. That is a significant fall of 22,543 that equates to a drop of 20.8%. The number of new cars built for the home market in July 2020 amounted to 13,434 whereas in July 2019 the figure was 21,371 – a fall of 37.1%. The number of new cars manufactured for the export market in July 2020 amounted to 72,434 whereas in July 2019 the figure was 86,868 – a drop of 16.8%. .........read more »


  5. Bus, Coach and HGV Registrations Fall In Q2 2020

    Motor traders and others working within the motor trade industry will be disappointed to hear that the number of new buses, coaches and HGVs registered in the UK in the second quarter of 2020 dropped. That is according to data produced by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

    In the second quarter of 2020, there were 328 new buses and coaches registered here in the UK with this being a fall of 77.1% when compared with the same quarter in 2019.There were 208 minibuses, 51 single-deck and 69 double-deck buses and coaches registered in Q2 2020. On a year to date basis to the second quarter of 2020, there were 1,731 new buses and coaches registered with this being a fall of 34.6% when compared with the same period last year. .........read more »

  7. Large Drop In UK Car Manufacturing In May

    It will probably not come as a surprise to motor traders and those involved in the motor trade industry that May 2020 saw a very large reduction in the number of new cars built here in the UK when compared with May 2019.

    According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), in May 2020 there were 5,314 new cars manufactured in the UK whereas in May 2019 the figure was 116,035. This is a dramatic fall of 95.4%. In May 2020 there were only 1,054 new cars built for the home market whereas in May 2019 there were 22,175 – a drop of 95.2%. In May 2020 there were only 4,260 new cars built for export whereas in May 2019 the figure was 93,860 – a fall of 95.5%. .........read more »

    Those of you running a business in the motor trade industry will not be surprised to read that the number of motor engines produced in the UK fell dramatically in April in comparison to the same month last year. According to data produced by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the number of engines built this April only amounted to 830 whereas in April 2019 the figure was 178,022 – a drop of 99.5%. .........read more »
