  1. October Sees Fall In UK Van Sales

    There is more disappointing news for the motor trade industry with the recent announcement that the number of new vans sold here in the UK for the month of October 2019 has fallen. Obviously, this will give cause for concern in particular to those motor traders involved in the sale of such vehicles.

    According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the number of new vans sold in October 2019 totalled 25,373. For the same month last year the figure was 28,494 so there was a drop of 11.0% – a sizeable figure. The number of new pickups sold last month amounted to 3,241 – a drop of 12% from 3.681 in October 2018. The number of new 4x4s last month was 226 with this being a rise of 65% when compared with the 137 sold in the same month last year. The number of new vans up to 2.0 tonnes sold in October 2019 was 1,396 – an increase of 2.0% from 1,368 in October 2018. The number of new vans sold between 2.0 to 2,5 tonnes last month was 4,355 with this being a big increase of 31% from 3,325 in October 2018. The number of new vans sold in the 2.5 to 3.5 tonnes category in October 2019 was 16,155 whereas in the same month last year the figure was 19,983 – a fall of 19.2%. .........read more »


  2. Reduction In New Car Registrations In October 2019

    Once again, there is further disappointing news within the motor trade industry as the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has announced that there has been a drop in the number of new cars registered here in the UK in October 2019.

    Last month there were 143,251 new cars registered whereas in October 2018 the figure was 153,599 – a drop of 6.7%. This will particularly concern motor traders who are involved in the sale of new cars. The number of private new car sales fell by 13.2% between those periods, fleet sales rose by a minimal 0.3% and business sales dropped significantly by 30.3%. .........read more »


  3. New Car Sales Go Up In September 2019

    On a positive note, the number of new car registrations in September 2019 rose to 343,255 when compared with the same month in 2018 when 338,834 new cars were registered in the UK. That is a rise of 1.3%- not a huge increase but nevertheless a step in the right direction.   4. Sale Of New Vans Drop In September

    There is more disappointing news for the motor trade industry, in particular for motor traders who sell new vans. According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), there has been a big drop in the number of new vans sold here in the UK for the month of September 2019.

    Last month there were 41,216 new vans sold in the UK compared to 53,848 in September 2018. That is a very big reduction of 23.5% and must be concerning for those motor traders who make a living from selling such vehicles. .........read more »


  5. Some Positive Figures For The Motor Industry In August

    There have not been many positive things happening within the motor industry to shout about in the last few months so we thought we would highlight three positive sets of figures for August 2019 produced by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

    UK Car Manufacturing

    The number of new cars built in the UK in August 2019 totalled 92,158 compared to 89,255 in August 2018. This was a rise of 3.3%. The number manufactured for the home market was 18,725 in August 2019 whereas in the same month last year the figure was 16,261 – a rise of 15.2%. The number of new cars built that were exported in August this year totalled 73,433 compared to 72,994 in August 2018 – an increase of 0.6%. .........read more »


  6. Number Of New Cars Registered In August Falls In UK

    Motor traders will be disappointed, if not surprised, to read that the number of new cars registered here in the UK in August 2019 has fallen when compared with the same month last year according to statistics published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

    In August 2019, the number of new cars registered amounted to 92,573 whereas in the same month last year there were 94,094 new cars registered. That is a fall of 1,521 with this equating to a drop of 1.6%. .........read more »


  7. Car Production Drops Again

    Yet again, the number of cars built here in the UK has fallen for another month – this time in July 2019. This is the 14th month in a row this has happened and will concern many businesses involved in the motor trade industry.

    According to data published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the number of new cars built here in the UK in July 2019 amounted to 108,239. In the same month last year, the figure was 121,051. That is a significant fall of 10.6%. In July 2019, the number of cars built for the home market totalled 21,381 compared to 19,401 for July 2018 – an increase of 10.2%. However, the number of cars built for export in July 2019 amounted to 86,858 whereas in July 2018 the figure was 101, 650 – a fall of 14.6%. .........read more »

    Those of you operating within the motor trade industry will be disappointed to read that car manufacturing here in the UK suffered a large drop in production on a year to date basis to June 2019. This is not good news for this important sector of the UK economy.

    According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), in the 6 months to June 2019 there was a fall of 20.1% in the building of cars here in the UK when compared with the same period to June 2018. In the later period there were 834,573 new cars built whereas in the former period there were only 666,521 new cars constructed. .........read more »


  10. June Sees Rise In Sale Of New Vans

    Over the last six months, you will be interested to read that there has been a rise in the sale of new vans here in the UK. So, this information will no doubt come as welcome news in particular to motor traders involved in the buying and selling of new vans.

    According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the number of light commercial vehicles registered in the UK in June 2019 went up by 13.5% when compared with June 2018.
