  3. 2021 Sees Rise In Used Car Sales

    Motor traders will find it interesting to read that the number of used cars sold here in the UK in 2021 was greater than the number of cars sold in 2020. However, this probably does not come as a surprise considering the pandemic.

    According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the number of second hand cars sold in 2021 amounted to 7.530,956 whereas in the previous year the figure was 6,752,959.   5. Used Car Market Improves In Q2 2021

    Motor traders will be interested to read that the second hand car market saw a big increase in sales in the second quarter of 2021 when compared with the same quarter last year. However, that is probably not a surprise when you take into account the pandemic.

    In Q2 of 2021 there were 2,167,504 used cars sold in the UK according to figures produced by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) whereas in Q2 of 2020 there were 1,099,303 used cars sold – an increase of 108.6%. Apparently, the figures for Q2 of 2021 were 6.6% higher than the same quarter in 2019. .........read more »

    Motor traders will be disappointed to read that the number of second hand car sales in the UK dropped in the first quarter of 2021 in comparison to the same period in 2020 according to data published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

    In the first quarter of 2021, the number of used cars sold here in the UK amounted to 1,687,755 whereas in the first quarter of 2020 the figure was 1,851,919. That is a reduction of 164,164 with this equating to a drop of 8.9%. We are sure that our readers will agree that is a significant fall. .........read more »


  7. Big Drop In Sale Of Used Cars In 2020

    Last year was a big disappointment for many motor traders in the UK involved in the selling of second hand cars due to a significant fall in the number of such vehicles being sold in comparison to 2019. Presumably, the coronavirus pandemic was a contributing factor in the reduction in sales.

    According to figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the number of used cars sold here in the UK in 2020 amounted to 6,752,959 whereas there were 7,935,105 second hand cars sold in the previous year. That is a fall of 1,182,146 with this equating to a drop of 14.9%. We are sure that you will agree this is a huge difference and may well have led to a number of used car sales businesses ceasing to trade. It will be interesting to see if, when we do eventually come out of this pandemic, some of those businesses are able to start back up again. .........read more »
